2021.09.27 19:21 DaManDaMifDaLegend The Galactic Scene (Intro)
The Galactic Council was in an uproar. Representatives from every species, even the reclusive ones, had assembled for this meeting. Some species had even sent in their highest ranking officials. Even several royals had turned up for this momentous occasion.
A new species had just entered the Galactic Scene.
This in itself wasn’t a huge deal. In fact, if two years went by without a new species travelling faster than the speed of light, it was an odd occurrence. The thing that made this occasion so special wasn’t what had been done, but rather who had done it.
The Council had known about humans for a few hundred years. They’d even set up a couple discrete stations within their solar system, just to study them and their peculiar existence.
So far, every species recognized by the council had a trait that they had used to excel on their planet. Something that made them extraordinary. For the Ra’Nix’Tol, it was their sixteen movable eyes that granted them full range vision. The Jovians were one of the few Council species capable of flight. Midorians are able to survive in climates that would have been inhospitably cold and harsh for any other species, thanks to their dense fur and the strength of their dominant limbs.
Humans, on the other hand, were absolutely, astonishingly, and unnervingly average.
The charts being shown to the gathered Council Members were showing just that, and Findor Sixstripe wasn’t sure what to make of them. The more he stared at the charts, the more he wondered just how a species that excelled at exactly nothing could come to be the dominant form of life on any planet, especially one as inhospitable as what they called “Earth.” They were fast, but not nearly as fast as a Rajak. They had endurance, but even he, an admittedly out-of-shape Midorian could carry on longer than them. Their intelligence was decent, but nothing to write home about. Even their size was almost perfectly average for the Council species.
Every cub has its claws, just as every cub needs its mother. Findor thought to himself, then abruptly stopped. He looked back up at the charts for confirmation, then let slip a sotto voce expletive before he clicked on his light, indicating that he wished to speak.
At first, the head of the Council, a venerable Ra’Nix’Tol female, seemed to ignore Findor completely. She instead attended to every request of the central council members, even those which had come far later than Findor’s. Once every question, statement, or completely unrelated quip of the central members had been spoken, she finally turned her attention to Findor. “Does the councilman from the Midorian Compound wish to take the floor?”
“No, chairwoman, I would simply like to make a statement of tactical importance.”
“Very well, we will now hear a point of order from the representative of the Midorian Compound.”
“Thank you chairwoman.” Findor turned his attention to the whole council. “As I’m sure many of you have noticed, this entire species defies one of our oldest facts of military wisdom. ‘Every cub has its claws.’ Translated to the common form, it states that ‘Every soldier has their strength.’ When looking at these humans, though, I cannot for the life of me see one.”
He paused, and the sound of general agreement made its way around the chambers.
“There is a second part to that saying, one that is usually understood, and often goes without saying. Here, however, I believe that it is the more important clause. ‘Every cub needs its mother,’ or, as translated, ‘Every soldier has their weakness.’ While this saying has never failed me before,” He indicated a long string of medals and accolades across his sash. “I do believe that, in this specific case, it does not hold. Between everything I have seen and all that I have read, I cannot find a single weakness held by the human species.”
Before the rest of the council could process this revelation, he turned to the chairwoman and relinquished his speaking rights with a simple “That is all.”
As soon as his light turned off, dozens of others turned on. The council chamber erupted into shouting as each representative tried their hardest to be heard above the others. Findor sat back and watched the chaos for a moment before springing into action. These humans, even with their relatively primitive technology, would prove to be either a terrible enemy, or one of the most strategically important allies he could ask for.
He turned to his aide and began arranging to put himself on the first contact mission. A deep friendship between Midorians and Humans would be the very thing that could raise Midorians from their current position, and finally earn them a spot in the center ring of this very chamber. Something like that couldn’t be trusted to a simple two-stripe ambassador.
No, the future of the Galaxy hinged on the Humans. Findor would personally ensure that when all was said and done, the Midorians would be coming out on top with them.

2021.09.27 19:21 Either-Manufacturer7 Buyer raised a false claim.... and it was granted??
So, I sell DVD's and books on amazon and I always send 1st class signed for despite this costing more (I've been burned in the past).
I sent a book which the customer wasn't happy with as the cover was different. This was clearly stated in the description, as the isbn and scanning it matched and it would not let me list it under anything different. Everything else was exactly the same.
The buyer messages saying it's a different cover then ignores my reply apologising and asking what they wanted to do next.
Nothing happens until a claim is lodged saying it was never delivered, despite it being tracked and delivered the next day and the buyer signing for it. As well as messaging me about the cover, implying they had recieved it and opened it.
I put all the tracking information up, when it was delivered, that it was signed for, that I have a receipt etc, thinking there was no way they would allow this... I was wrong.
They granted the refund. They have the book (£25) and a full refund. I have no payment, no book, lost the shipping fee (£6) and my account is likely to be closed down as I don't sell much and the "defect" rate is 25% with that one claim. They also dismissed my appeal.
The delivery date says between the 16th and 28th of September. How can they issue a refund during this time?? And what about the evidence??
Has anyone else had this problem? I've called and emailed but I can't seem to get through to anyone that will just look at it.
Any advice would be great
